Can Olive Oil Treat Constipation
Well, we only found 2 studies that have evaluated the effect of olive oil on constipation, but both showed promising results.
In the first study, researchers were comparing different bowel-cleansing regimens for colonoscopy preparation .
They evaluated the conventional preparation, which involves drinking 4 liters of a polyethylene glycol electrolyte solution , against an experimental regimen in which patients drank one-fourth cup of olive oil mixed into a glass of apple juice before consuming 2 liters of PEG-ELS.
Surprisingly, the olive oil regimen did a BETTER job cleansing the colon, and patients found it to be more tolerable than the conventional preparation.
The second study compared the effects of olive oil and flaxseed oil to mineral oil on constipation symptoms .
For 4 weeks, patients consumed 4 to 6 milliliters of oil each day, away from meals, and monitored their symptoms.
The olive oil and mineral oil were similarly effective, both significantly reducing symptoms of constipation.

Oil fortification with genistein was done in such a way that the daily intake of genistein was kept at 100 mg per kg BW in groups that received fortified oils.34 Half of the rats in each group received therapy for three days and were then sacrificed the other halves were treated for seven days before being sacrificed. Animals were fasted 24 h before and after colitis induction and body weight was measured daily. Eighteen rats were spared during the study because of colonic wall perforation and were excluded from statistical analysis. Half of the animals on the 4th day and the other half on the 8th day were sacrificed by cervical dislocation, and tissue samples were obtained from the rats’ colons for stereological and biochemical analyses. Tissue samples were immediately transferred to a nitrogen tank and kept frozen at 80 °C until the analysis.

Some people with UC find that eating four to six small meals instead of three large ones keeps their guts happier, which means youve got more dishes to plan than ever.
Pick up some meal-prep habits if you havent yet. Those include planning bigger meals in a slow cooker or making staples like baked chicken, starches, or roasted veggies that you can mix and match for the rest of the week.
