Can I Use Turmeric For Horses With Ulcers Or Those With Laminitis
The use of turmeric for horses with an issue such as ulcers or laminitis should only be considered in the context of being a palatability aid and not therapeutic. However, some people have questioned whether it is safe to use. In a study published in 2020 it was shown that using a pure turmeric supplement for 28 days did not cause or worsen ulcers during this time period. This indicates using turmeric for horses with ulcers is safe to do. However, curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has been reported to interact with drugs and cause some side effects in horses and so it is advisable to discuss using turmeric for horses on medication or with any other condition with your vet.

How Supplemented Turmeric Beats Raw Turmeric Extractturmeric For Mouth Ulcers
There are conditions in which it is far better to soak up nutrients via supplements over entire food resources. While unusual, removed turmeric extract is among these distinct situations.
The focus of curcuminoids can be stronger in supplements compared to raw turmeric extract. While curcumin generally makes up 2 8 % of turmeric extract, the curcumin essence in turmeric supplements generally consist of 95% curcuminoids. ¹ Due to the low source of curcumins in turmeric, you will struggle to check the health advantages of turmeric by merely sprinkling it on your food.
Furthermore, one research study revealed that cooking turmeric might result in the loss of the curcumin compound. Boiling turmeric for 20 mins was discovered to be the most harmful, meaning that your turmeric curry or slow chef becomes less and also much less advantageous.
Many turmeric supplements also include some kind of peppercorn. The reason for this is curcumin is tricky to absorb by itself. Nonetheless, when coupled with peppercorn, there can be a 20-fold rise in bioavailability contrasted to turmeric made use of alone. Some trademarked kinds of pepper remove have actually been specifically developed for this function. Turmeric for Mouth Ulcers
How To Use Turmeric To Treat Acid Reflux
Turmerics stems, or rhizomes, can be dried and ground into a powder. The powder can be taken orally or used when cooking.
Unless you add turmeric to all of your recipes or drink a lot of turmeric tea, it may be difficult for you to consume enough turmeric to treat acid reflux. Organic turmeric extract supplements may be a better way to get medicinal amounts.
Your body absorbs turmeric and curcumin poorly. The spice and its extract are both rapidly metabolized by your liver and intestinal wall.
Various methods of delivery have been explored to increase the bioavailability of curcumin. None have taken hold at this time.
One way to increase turmerics absorption is to consume it with piperine. Its commonly found in black pepper.

Turmeric Shield Against Gastric Ulcers
Researchers have discovered that turmeric polysaccharides can alleviate gastric ulcers by protecting the mucus lining of stomach and inhibiting the growth of an ulcer-causing bacterium. These polysaccharides could potentially be used as therapeutic agents for treating gastric ulcers.
Cellular oxidative stress and Helicobacter pylori infection reduce mucin production and boost acid secretion in the stomach. This increased acid production erodes the mucus lining of the stomach, resulting in gastric ulcers. Existing drugs check acid production and stop bacterial infection, but have harmful side effects.
To develop a better therapy for gastric ulcers, the researchers modified turmeric pectic polysaccharides using alkaline treatment. They then probed the efficacies of the modified polysaccharides to alleviate gastric ulcers in cultured human gastric epithelial cancer cells and rats with gastric ulcers and compared them with those of unmodified pectic polysaccharides.
The modified polysaccharides inhibited the growth of ulcer-causing bacteria more efficiently than the unmodified ones. The modified polysaccharides stopped bacterial growth by preventing bacteria from adhering to and colonizing gastric cells.
The modified pectic polysaccharides, which possess multifaceted ulcer-prevention activities, may provide a cost-effective therapeutic option for gastric ulcer, the researchers say.
How Did This Occur
Curcumin which is the primary active curcuminoid with its anti-ulcer properties inhibits the gastric acid secretion like hydrochloric acid , reduces acidity and promotes healing of the ulcer.
The effects of anti-microbial properties of curcumin acting on the imbalance in natural bacteria found in the gut and its anti-oxidant properties inhibits the inflammatory chemicals like Nuclear Factor-kappa B and interleukin-8 activated by the bacteria H.pylori and thus, provides relief from the symptoms of Peptic Ulcer.
Bisdemethoxycurcumin which is another curcuminoidof turmeric also helps in reducing the gastric acid secretion and increases the defense mechanism of the stomach linings by suppressing inflammatory chemicals like Inducible nitric oxide synthase that causes inflammation.

Protein Extraction For Elisa
Samples of 8 cm portion of distal colon were cut longitudinally to open, washed with ice-cold PBS, and the mucosa was rapidly scraped from the underlying tissue layers on ice. The mucosa was weighed, minced by forceps, and homogenized with 10 volumes of in ice-cold high KCl lysis buffer 10 mM TrisHCl, pH 8.0, 140 mM NaCl, 300 mM KCl, 1 mM EDTA, 0.5 % Triton X-100 and 0.5 % sodium deoxycholate with complete protease inhibitor cocktail with a polytron homogenizer . The resulting homogenates, after 30 min incubation on ice, were centrifuged at 15000 rpm for 30 min at 4 °C. The resulting supernatant was stored at 80 °C until the ELISA was performed. Protein concentration was determined in each sample by the BCA method based commercial kit.

Turmeric For Ulcers: How Does It Help
Scientists suggest that turmeric polysaccharides can reduce gastric ulcers by protecting the mucus lining of the stomach and inhibiting the growth of ulcer-causing bacteria.
Cellular oxidative stress and Helicobacter pylori infections are the two most common causes of gastric ulcer. They increase the acid secretion in the stomach that erodes the mucous lining resulting in stomach inflammation, peptic ulcer, and certain types of stomach cancers.
Existing drugs stop bacterial infection and control acid secretion in the stomach but they have harmful side-effects. However, turmeric can increase the levels of free-radical-scavenging enzymes like catalase, glutathione, and superoxide dismutase to reduce the effects of oxidative stress in the stomach. Therefore, turmeric could potentially be used for treating gastric ulcers without any side-effects.

Turmeric In The Treatment Of Dyspepsia
May 2000 Volume 3 49-53
The medical literature suggests that turmeric extracts possess antioxidant, hypolipidemic, choleretic , cholekinetic , anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, and antimicrobial activities.1 Of all these purported benefits, perhaps the best-studied in humans are turmerics choleretic and cholekinetic properties, making this ancient herb potentially useful in the treatment of dyspepsia.
Dyspepsia is a common condition seen in general practice, accounting for 2-4% of all primary care office visits.2 The term non-ulcer dyspepsia refers to epigastric discomfort not associated with ulcer disease. In modern clinical practice in this country, the mainstay of treatment for NUD includes antacids, H2-blockers, proton pump inhibitors, and antibiotics aimed at Helicobacter pylori, all of which may work in the short term, or may not work at all. In these patients, turmeric when used in doses of 1-3 g/d may improve dyspeptic symptoms.
Extracts from Curcuma longa, also known as turmeric, have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 2,000 years for a wide variety of unrelated medical conditions from parasitic intestinal infections and skin cancer to liver disease. In traditional Chinese medicine, turmeric, also known as Jianghuang, has been used for dyspepsia, liver disease, and hyperlipidemia for more than two millennia and is listed in the Chinese Materia Medica.4

Turmeric For Ulcers And Nausea
Turmeric with the botanical name of Curcuma longa is better known for its culinary use in curries and as coloring and flavoring agent.
It has also long been valued for its antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric products can be used to treat digestive tract disorders like ulcers, nausea, dyspepsia, kidney and liver problems.
Peptic ulcers are also called duodenal or gastric ulcers. Studies have been conducted on the long term benefits of turmeric in healing ulcers.
One study examined 45 patients both men and women with known symptoms of peptic ulcers in the 16-60 age groups. 25 patients had gastric or duodenal ulcers.
They were given 300mg of turmeric filled capsules 5 times daily, ½ to 1 hour before meals and at bedtime for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, tests revealed that in 12 cases, the ulcers were absent and in 18 cases, further treatment for 8 weeks cured the ulcers. In 19 patients, the ulcers disappeared after 12 weeks.
The remaining 20 patients did not have ulcers when tested.
Instead, they suffered from dyspepsia, gastritis, and erosions to the stomach lining. They were given turmeric filled capsules for 4 weeks.
Within the first 2 weeks, stomach discomfort and pain disappeared. They could also return to a normal diet. Hematological system, renal and liver functions and blood chemistry of all patients displayed no significant changes before and after taking turmeric capsules. Turmeric indeed did the trick here!

Gastric Diseases And Its Significance
A gastric ulcer is a hole in the gut lining of the stomach, duodenum, or esophagus. An ulcer is agastric ulcer of the stomach, a duodenal ulcer is an ulcer of the duodenum, and an esophageal ulcer is an ulcer of the esophagus. An ulcer occurs when the acidic digestive juices that are secreted by the stomach cells corrode the lining of these organs. For many years, excess acid has been believed to be the major factor responsible for ulcer disease. Accordingly, treatment emphasis was on neutralizing and inhibiting the secretion of stomach acid. Although acid is considered a primary factor in ulcer formation, the leading cause of ulcer disease currently is believed to be infection of the stomach by the bacteria called H. pylori. Another major cause of ulcers is the chronic use of anti-inflammatory medications, commonly referred to as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs including aspirin. Cigarette smoking and ingestion of exogenous substances such as alcohol and fast foods are also important causes of ulcer formation and ulcer treatment failure. These major effectors of gastric ulcer trigger the secretion of messenger chemicals called the ulcer chemical mediators .
Turmeric Heals Peptic Ulcer In 4 Weeks
Peptic ulcer disease is a diseased condition in which painful sores are formed on the inner linings of the stomach and the duodenum, which is first part of the small intestine .
In rare cases, peptic ulcers may develop just above the stomach in the food pipe.
In severe cases, the symptoms observed are
- Melena dark or black tarry stool due to bleeding and very foul smelling.
- Severe pain in the upper and mid abdominal region
Peptic ulcers are known to cause severe complications like bleeding, perforation and blockage of the stomach.
The most common factors causing Peptic ulcer are
- Helicobacter pylori bacterial infection
- Long term usage of Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and aspirin, naproxen etc.
- Tobacco smoking and drinking alcohol regularly
- Rarely caused by cancerous and non-cancerous tumors in the stomach, duodenum and pancreas.
- Stress due to serious illnesses like Behcet disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, Crohn disease and livercirrhosis.
The treatment of Peptic ulcer includes the following medications and practices such as Antacids and Histamine receptor blockers , cases with H.pylori bacterial infection are treated with a combination of Antibiotics, Proton pump inhibitors etc.
Upper endoscopy is done in case of bleeding ulcers and surgery is required in cases of serious bleeding which cant be controlled by endoscopy.
Turmeric consists of biologically active curcuminoids with potent Anti-inflammatory, Anti-oxidant and Anti-microbial properties.
