Carrot And Cabbage Juice
Cabbage has many properties that can help with a stomach ulcer. It contains a good amount of vitamin C, which can help with your stomachs healing process. Cabbage also contains an amino acid that can help to increase blood flow to the stomach, which can also help stimulate healing. While carrot juice, on the other hand, contains vitamin U which has anti-peptic properties.
Chop half a cabbage and two carrots and place them into a blender or juicer and extract the juice. Drink a half cup of this juice before each meal and before bed. You may have to repeat this daily for a few weeks.
Causes Of Ulcers Include:
- an infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria
- long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines and ibuprofen
Stress and spicy food can also exacerbate the symptoms of an ulcer. Although they do not cause ulcers, they can make the situation worse by increasing the amount of stomach acid produced.
Healing Fruits And Veggies
Orange fruits and vegetables and other dark green leafy vegetables provide beta-carotene and other carotenoids. Once inside the body, beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A, which is necessary for the health and repair of the epithelial tissue in the stomach. Note that carotenoids are actually better absorbed from cooked carrots!
Blueberries and plantains contain anti-ulcerogenic compounds that stimulate the production of mucus in the gastric mucosal barrier. Cranberry extract might prove helpful as well.8 Pomegranates may help, too!9 Resveratrol from red grapes and ellagic acid from strawberries , inhibits H. pylori.10
Flavonoids should become your good friends! Two good sources of flavones are celery and parsley. Nitrates from vegetables such as spinach, beets, and lettuce are helpful. The salivary glands take the nitrates and convert them into nitrites. The stomach converts nitrites into nitric oxide, a molecule that improves blood flow in the mucosa.11 A diet rich in fiber, especially pectin, is associated with reduced rate of ulcers. One study showed that a high fiber diet reduces the recurrence rate of duodenal ulcers by half!

Plant extracts and their crude are the most significant sources of new drugs, and have been shown to cause promising results in the treatment of gastric ulcer as well . It is known that numerous pharmaceutical agents such as proton pump inhibitors, anticholinergics, antacids, antimicrobial agents, H2-receptor antagonists, sucralfate, and bismuth are not fully effective, and produce numerous adverse effects such as impotence, arrhythmia, hematopoietic alterations, hypersensitivity, and gynecomastia . Bacterial Content Of Ulcers
To determine the bacterial content in gastric ulcers, animals were killed under aseptic conditions. Tissue was washed in sterile PBS and transferred to sterile, preweighed containers , sterile PBS was added, and then the sample was homogenized. Serial dilutions were then plated on MacConkey agar and tryptic soy agar plates and incubated for 1824 h under aerobic conditions, and the colony-forming units were determined using a Leica colony counter. Results are expressed as CFU per gram of tissue .

What Tests Are There For A Stomach Ulcer
If your doctor thinks you may have a stomach ulcer, the initial tests will include some blood tests. These tests will help to check whether you have become anaemic because of any bleeding from the ulcer. The blood test will also check to see that your liver and pancreas are working properly.
The main tests that are then used to diagnose a stomach ulcer are as follows:
- A test to detect the H. pylori germ is usually done if you have a stomach ulcer. The H. pylori bacterium can be detected in a sample of stool , or in a ‘breath test’, or from a blood test, or from a biopsy sample taken during a gastroscopy. See the separate leaflet called Helicobacter Pylori for more details.
- Gastroscopy is the test that can confirm a stomach ulcer. Gastroscopy is usually done as an outpatient ‘day case’. You may be given a sedative to help you to relax. In this test, a doctor looks inside your stomach by passing a thin, flexible telescope down your gullet . The doctor will then be able to see any inflammation or ulcers in your stomach.
- Small samples are usually taken of the tissue in and around the ulcer during gastroscopy. These are sent to the laboratory to be looked at under the microscope. This is important because some ulcers are caused by stomach cancer. However, most stomach ulcers are not caused by cancer.

Similarly, oral Solanum nigrum fruits extract at a dose of 400 mg/kg lowered gastric acid concentration comparable to omeprazole . Herbal medicine-induced reduction in acid production could be due to: inhibition of H/K-ATPase activity, as demonstrated in animal models of gastric ulcer or stimulation of prostaglandin E2 production.
