Probiotics May Help With Weight Loss
Multiple research studies indicate that the composition of the gut microbiome is linked to a persons body weight.
While research is still in its early stages, it has shown that certain types of probiotic bacteria are more common in thin people and other types are more common in overweight individuals. Depending on which type of bacteria you have more of, your weight can be affected.
In addition, if your gut microbiome is out of balance, there is an opportunity for bad bacteria and other pathogens, such as Candida, to grow. Many of these pathogens send signals to the brain that encourage the body to crave sugar because sugar is what these pathogens survive on. The more sugar you eat, the better these pathogens can thrive!

Can Probiotic Supplements Be Harmful
Though many companies and influencers encourage everyone to use probiotics, they are, in fact, not beneficial for everyone, and different strains have different effects on different people.
More research is needed, but preliminary research has shown that probiotics may be harmful to people with certain underlying conditions or diagnoses, such as those with critical illness, AIDS, organ transplantation, necrotizing enterocolitis, cancer, and allergies. In such cases, probiotic supplementation may lead to life-threatening illnesses, including pneumonia, endocarditis , and sepsis.

Therapeutic effects of probiotics against H. pylori infection in children
There is ample evidence of the clinical effects of probiotics in treating and reducing bacterial load in children. Cruchet et al. conducted a randomized double-blind trial on children with asymptomatic H. pylori infection. In their study, the children were divided into five groups, so that four groups received probiotic Lactobacillus strains , and one group received placebo. They found that the C13UBT value in children receiving live L. johnsonii La1 was significantly lower than other groups . In a similar study, asymptomatic children were randomly treated with three regimens containing standard triple therapy . Based on several clinical trials, it has been concluded that the rate of eradication of H. pylori infection increases in children receiving probiotic diets . Some of these studies that suggested clinical efficacy of probiotic supplementation in the eradication of H. pylori infection are listed in Table . Based on these studies, probiotics can significantly increase H. pylori eradication rate particularly in patients receiving Lactobacillus spp. and Bifidobacterium spp. supplementation. These probiotics have a high potential against H. pylori infection using various mechanisms . In addition, probiotics can alter the gut microbiota to reduce gastrointestinal symptoms and drug side effects .

H Pylori Stool Antigen Test
H. pylori stool antigen test was performed on mice in the control and infected groups 4, 8, and 12 weeks after infection with H. pylori. At 4 weeks after the last inoculation, 30 mg of animal stool were collected in extraction tubes and 1 mL of extraction solution was added to the tubes containing stool. For stool antigen identification, some of the animals in the control and infected groups were sacrificed, the gut section was cut open, and a few biopsies were performed on the body and pylorus of the stomach for histological analysis. ELISA was performed and the results were analyzed. Also, in weeks 8 and 12 one animal was sacrificed in both the control and infected groups and histological analysis was performed. ELISA results were evaluated based on the measured standards, and the interpretation of positive and negative results was done based on titration .
What Are Probiotics And Why Would You Need Them
Among the estimated 100 trillion microbes living in your gut, there are some really helpful bacteria. They break down stuff like fiber into nutrients that your body then uses for energy and as a weapon against everything from cardiovascular disease to cancer.
Bottom line
The pro in probiotics refers to good bacteria that you can ingest as food or in tablet form, among other methods. If the good bacteria survive the journey through your digestive system into your gut, they will settle in and colonize it, eventually driving out the bad guys.

What Is The Difference Between Gastritis And Acid Reflux
These two conditions get mixed up quite often as they present very similar symptoms. Gastritis is an unpleasant inflammatory condition associated with high levels of stomach acid, but instead of inflammation of the oesophagus, its inflammation of the stomach lining. Gastritis can have similar root causes and risk factors as acid reflux, including overconsumption of certain foods and drinks, over use of certain pain medications or a bacterial infection like H. pylori. We will cover the best probiotics for gastritis in the next section.

When Buying A Probiotic Supplement
1. LACK OF STRAIN DIVERSITY
Clinical studies have shown that specific probiotic strains can help with particular health concerns.19,20 While the human gut contains thousands of different bacterial strains, most probiotics only include a few generic Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium strains. Look for a probiotic that has at least 14 unique strains to support proper microbiome balance.
2. CHEAP GENERIC STRAINS
Store shelves are filled with brands selling probiotics, listing cheap generic forms of popular strains on their labels. A 2018 study showed that not all probiotic strains produce the same results, even if they have the same name.21 Like most things in life, it all comes down to the details.
A high-quality brand will list the strain and a combination of letters and numbers, such as L. acidophilus La-14TM, known as a substrain. This unique identifier tells you that one or more clinical studies back the strain being used. Avoid probiotics that dont list substrains, as that could be a warning sign that low-quality, generic, and possibly ineffective strains are used in the formula.
3. PLASTIC BOTTLES
Moisture vapor transmission rate studies on probiotics packaged in plastic bottles have shown that they can allow too much moisture to enter, causing lower strain survival rates and a shorter shelf life overall.22
What Should I Look For When Choosing A Probiotic
Other probiotics provide different types or strains of good bacteria in different amounts compared with VSL#3®. The number of good bacteria is measured in colony-forming units . Studies have shown that greater diversity of bacteria may provide better results. Studies have also shown that bacteria need to remain alive in the digestive tract in high amounts to have a positive impact. When choosing a probiotic, you should consider both the number of different strains and the total CFU count, which is usually measured in billions.

Treating H Pylori With Probiotics Alone
If you have tested positive for H. pylori but dont have common H. pylori symptoms, you may simply benefit from using probiotics to balance your microbiota.
A systematic review did find that a small percentage of H. pylori infections can be eradicated with probiotics alone . So, if you have tested positive for H. pylori and you DO have common H. pylori symptoms, such as gastritis, ulcers, stomach pain, or bloating, you may also choose to try a trial of probiotics alone before treating with more intensive therapy.
If your symptoms or H. pylori test dont resolve with probiotics alone, then you can consider escalating your treatment to include probiotics plus antimicrobial therapy. Be sure to discuss your treatment plans with your doctor.
Can Probiotics Treat Other Gi Issues
Studies show that probiotics help with symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease. But more research to form a standard treatment goes on.
Research into whether probiotics may help people with Crohnâs disease is less clear. The studies have been small, and we need more research into what types of probiotics might work. Because of this, doctors aren’t likely to recommend probiotics to people with Crohnâs disease.

Support A Healthy Weight
According to the CDC, over 40% of the American population suffers from obesity. Those who suffer from obesity are at a higher risk of various illnesses and diseases, including:
-
Type 2 diabetes
-
Certain cancers
-
Digestive problems
Gut bacteria play an important role in your metabolism, and studies have found that the gut microbiome of those with obesity is different from the microbiomes of healthy-weight individuals. Obese individuals may not have the right microbiome balance to properly break down food, leading to weight gain or trouble losing weight.
While taking probiotic supplements alone wont make you lose weight, they can also play a positive role in weight maintenance through a number of different mechanisms. For example, some probiotic supplements can prevent the absorption of dietary fat in the intestine.
Probiotics can also help your body feel full for longer, store less fat, and burn more calories. This is partly due to the increase of certain hormones that help with your metabolic state.

Are Probiotics Good For Stomach Ulcer 5 Amazing Benefits
When it comes to probiotics, there are many different strains that offer a variety of benefits. While some strains are good for gut health, others can help improve immune function. But, are probiotics good for stomach ulcer? Lets find out in this health blog.
One of the most prevalent and deadly chronic illnesses of the upper gastrointestinal tract is stomach or gastric ulcer. According to data, they affect 2.4 percent of the Western population and may affect up to 6.1 percent of Asian people.
Our stomachs produce gastric acid naturally to break down and digest food. This acid is usually harmless and does not affect the stomach itself. However, there are certain things that can negatively affect the stomachs defense against this acid.
When the stomach can no longer protect itself from this gastric acid it causes the stomach lining to become damaged which leads to the formation of ulcers. These are sores that develop in the lining of the stomach.

When Will You Feel Benefits
This varies depending on each persons state of health and the quality of the probiotic supplement. Generally speaking, if you are taking a high-quality probiotic supplement, you will likely feel a positive impact on your digestion in the first few days of taking it. The additional health benefits should become apparent after a few weeks or months.
That said, given the external stressors we are confronted with on a daily basis, it is highly beneficial to add a probiotic supplement to your long-term, daily wellness routine. This will rebuild and then maintain your health and vitality from your core.
Probiotics May Support Mental Health
Probiotics influence mental health in several ways.
Healthy Gut-Brain Connection
The gut and the brain stand in constant communication with one another. Probiotic bacteria help to produce and metabolize the messenger signals that are sent via the bloodstream to the brain. Therefore, the composition of gut bacteria can influence the messages that get sent to your brain and impact your mental wellbeing.
For example, up to 95% of your happiness hormone Serotonin, as well as a significant amount of the pleasure neurotransmitter Dopamine, are produced in the gut. Both of these substances are directly linked to mood disorders like anxiety and depression.
Inflammation
Inflammation in the gut is commonly linked to inflammation in the brain, also known as neuroinflammation. A clinical study by Leblhuber, et. al, published in Current Alzheimer Research in 2018 investigates that a dysbiosis of intestinal microbiota in the elderly can cause a leaky gut, which may result in silent systemic inflammation and promote neuroinflammation a relevant pathomechanism in the early course of Alzheimers disease. The rebalancing of the gut microbiome can reduce inflammation in the gut and throughout the body, including the brain.
