How Does Ozone Therapy Work
Ozone therapy is a unique form of therapy that simultaneously heals and detoxifies at the same time. It provides pain relief while aiding tissue regeneration through activation of stem cells. Ozone Therapy is used to treat a variety of chronic disease including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, Lyme disease, chronic hepatitis, herpes, chronic fatigue states, chemical sensitivity, macular degeneration, chronic bladder conditions, colitis, autoimmune diseases, and Crohns disease.
Effects Of Hbot On Oxidative Stress In Ibd
Some studies have reported evidence of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in individuals with IBD. Several of the animal models of IBD reported a reduction in oxidative stress markers with HBOT. It should be noted that, theoretically, HBOT might increase oxidative stress through the augmented production of reactive oxygen species from the high concentration of oxygen . This may occur because increased oxygen delivery to mitochondria can increase ROS production. However, HBOT has also been shown to upregulate the production of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase , glutathione peroxidase , catalase , paraoxonase and heme-oxygenase 1 . This increase in antioxidant enzyme levels has been termed “conditioning” and can protect against damage caused by ROS . Two animal models of IBD reported a significant increase in glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase levels with HBOT , suggesting that the increased production of antioxidant enzymes may have limited or lowered oxidative stress in these studies. Although none of the reviewed studies measured changes in mitochondrial function with HBOT, it is possible that HBOT may have led to some improvements by augmenting mitochondrial function as reported in previous studies . Further studies examining the effects of HBOT on oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in individuals with IBD are needed.
Is Rectal Ozone Insufflation Medically Accepted As An Alternative Therapy
Ozone therapy is certainly not without any controversies. For example, the direct injection of ozone into the bloodstream is strictly prohibited. Some countries, like Russia, opt to use ozonated saline solution to intravenously administer it to their patients.
An important improvement has been the production of more reliable ozone generators that produce the precise concentration or ozone volume output needed for the treatment and for eliciting an antioxidative response.
Despite the limitations and concerns around rectal ozone insufflation, it remains to be one of the safest and most effective systemic applications of medical ozone in the body.
Although still lacking in sponsors and funding, the handful of clinical trials on rectal ozone insufflation showed excellent performance and results.
So, while there are still limitations that hinder the full acceptance of rectal ozone therapy as a mainstream medical alternative, its parameters are still well within those of conventional medicine.
Despite the limitations and concerns around rectal ozone insufflation, it remains to be one of the safest and most effective systemic applications of medical ozone in the body.
Its effects are not only limited to addressing a specific illness or disease but can also include improving the bodys overall health. Rectal ozone insufflation can help stimulate the immune system and provide increased levels of oxygen to your tissues.

Experimental Design And Study Groups
Group 1 was the control group receiving only physiological saline. Group 2 was the acute distal colitis group. Group 3 was the acute distal colitis and medical ozone treated group receiving 1mg/kg/day medical ozone via both intraperitoneal and rectal route for three weeks at dose of 25mcg/ml. At the end of the twenty second day the rats were sacrified with decapitation and the distal colonic samples were obtained. The levels of TNF- and IL-1 from blood serum and, the levels of MDA and MPO from distal colonic tissue samples were analysed. Histopathological analysis was analyzed by an expert pathologist under a light microscope. Two animals did not tolerate the experimental protocol and died during these procedures in group 2 and two more rats were added to study.
Three week later, the midline incision was performed in all the groups. After the sacrification of rats by decapitation, their abdomens were opened and distal colon tissues were harvested for evaluation. Blood serum samples were obtained by centrifugation.
Ozone Concentration And Dosage
Based on the results of fundamental research over the past 18 years the ozone concentrations and required total amounts can be given in concrete terms. The concentrations listed below are cited in the measurements 1 mg/l.
Rectal ozone concentrations for systemic preventative and immune supporting applications are recommended with a concentration of 10 to 40 mg/l with a volume of 150 300 ml for adults and 10 30 ml for children.
As per Dr. Rau from the Paracelsus clinic in Swiss, Prostate cancer is always connected with long term bacteria infections which are directly treated with ozone. Rectal ozone stimulates the immune system, provides plentiful oxygen to the immune cells for the respiratory burst and therefore increases chances of a recovery. Dr. Robert Rowen MD has also stunning results using Ozone rectally.
Below you find a list of indications with best results based on clinical research for rectal ozone insufflation. This list has been provided by Dr. Fiban Henzler.

Medical Properties Of Ozone
Ozone has five properties that account for why it works so well not only for macular degeneration, but also for most other chronic age related conditions as well:
- Ozone is a potent regulator of the immune system. This means that when the immune system is overactive , ozone will calm it down. Conversely, when the immune system is under active as in cancer, AIDS, and chronic infections, ozone will stimulate it. This unique ability of ozone stems from its action on the membranes of white cells that causes them to produce immune related messenger molecules called cytokines. Examples of cytokines are gamma interferon, interleukin-2, colony stimulating factor, and TNF-alpha just to name a few.
- Ozone stimulates increased uptake of oxygen by stimulating the enzyme Diphosphoglycerate . DPG enables the release of oxygen from the hemoglobin molecule so that it can be taken up into the cell. In the absence of an adequate amount of DPG, our cells become starved for oxygen. This is a common problem in diabetics.
- Ozone improves circulation. It does this by enhancing the flow characteristics of blood as a liquid. This effect enables more of the oxygen carrying hemoglobin to reach the capillaries where ultimately the cells will receive more of the oxygen they require. Many patients with chronic inflammatory conditions have impaired circulation.

Effects Of Hbot On Ibd In Human Studies
The total number of identified publications utilizing HBOT in Crohn’s disease was about twice the number of studies in ulcerative colitis. In these studies, the number of patients treated in both diseases was similar, although one study in ulcerative colitis reported improvements in 34 patients, but this finding was only reported in an English abstract, and therefore the strengths and weaknesses of this study could not be adequately assessed . The remaining 5 studies in ulcerative colitis only totaled 5 patients. Therefore, the evidence in the reviewed studies for a positive effect of HBOT is stronger for Crohn’s disease than for ulcerative colitis.
It is especially noteworthy that all of the studies on Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis used HBOT in patients who were refractory to multiple medical treatments, including, in some cases, corticosteroids, 6-mercaptopurine, mesalamine, tetracycline, 5-amino salicylic acid, azathioprine, sulfasalazine, metronidazole, and an elemental diet. It is possible that earlier treatment with HBOT in individuals with IBD before severe symptoms develop would be even more effective in ameliorating the condition. Additional studies examining the clinical effects of HBOT in individuals with IBD would be helpful in assessing this possibility.
Effects Of Hbot On Inflammation And Immune Dysregulation In Ibd
IBD is characterized by inflammation, ulcerations and the accumulation of neutrophils. Many of the reviewed animal models replicated IBD by inducing colitis which was accompanied by intestinal edema, ulcerations, accumulation of neutrophils, increased nitric oxide levels and elevated cytokines. Therefore, these animal models appeared effective at reproducing the pathophysiology of IBD.
Finally, the inflammation found in IBD could be secondary to an infectious agent. Since some investigators have reported that Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis may play a role in IBD , it is possible the HBOT may be beneficial as it has been reported to kill Mycobacterium species . Additional studies investigating the effects of HBOT on inflammation and biomarkers of inflammation in individuals with IBD are warranted.

Top 3 Natural Treatments For Bowel Disorders
Most bowel disorders do not have a cure. The most a doctor can do is prescribe medications that can relieve some of the symptoms. For this reason, many people are looking at alternative and complementary medicine for a possible cure.
While many of these procedures are still not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, these treatment plans are considered effective by those who have tried them.

Known Risk Factors For Bowel Disorders
The precise cause of most bowel disorders is unknown. However, most experts claim that there are several risk factors that can increase the chances of developing one. For example, Crohns disease can be genetic.
Immunologic and microbial factors should also be considered. Weak immune systems are prone to infections while those with a microbial imbalance will also suffer from poor bowel movement.
Moreover, if you have intestinal obstructions caused by a previous surgery or injury, you are likely to develop a bowel disorder.
Lastly, environmental factors like having a poor diet, smoking cigarettes, and drinking alcohol can trigger a bowel disorder. You need to work with your doctor to determine the types of food that can aggravate your condition.
Ulcerative Colitis Treatment With Ozone
What is colitis?
Colitis is a disease that affects the large intestine. It causes inflammation in the large intestine, causing irritation and swelling, and causes wounds such as ulcers. must be kept under constant control colitisgreatly affects the quality of life.
What are the symptoms of colitis?
- Weight loss and loss of appetite
- Redness and burning sensation in the eyes
- Joint pain and swelling in the joints
- diarrhea or constipation
- Stream formation in the breech
What are the causes of colitis?
Colitis has many causes. Colitis is caused by inflammation of the intestines by harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Decreased blood flow in the large intestine and allergic reactions also cause colitis.
What are the types of colitis?
Campylobacter, Shigella, E. Coli, Yersinia and Salmonella are the most common bacteria seen in colitis. Ulcerative colitis and Crohns disease also cause colitis. Entamoeba Histolytica infection is one of the most common parasites in the world.
What is Ulcerative Colitis?
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the large intestine and rectum. When the large intestine and rectum or both are inflamed ulcerative colitis consists of. With the inflammation that occurs, it causes ulcers to form on the inner surface of the large intestine.
How is ulcerative colitis diagnosed?
After the doctor examines the patient, different tests and examinations can be done to diagnose ulcerative colitis.

What Is Medical Ozone
Ozone therapy is not new to the medical world. It is an incredibly beneficial biohacking tool with a unique structure that has been used medically for over 35 years. Due to its antibacterial effects, it was first used to treat wounds on soldiers battling in World War I and in the 1940s the first ozone treatment on gastrointestinal disorder was administered rectally to treat Colitis.
Containing 3 oxygen atoms instead of 2, Ozone, is a super oxygen and considered the medicine of the future! The positive effects of medical ozone can be attributed to increased oxygen delivery, immune activation, enhanced blood circulation and high antioxidant activity.
How Ozone Rectal Insufflation Works
Most rectal insufflation requires only three things: a small catheter, an ozone collection bag, and a lubricant. The patient is laid on their left side, with knees bent and pulled upward to lift the upper buttocks for better rectal opening. Waterproof pads are often placed under the patients hips to protect the bedding.
The catheter is lubricated and inserted into the rectum about 4 inches deep. The other end of the catheter is then connected to the ozone collection bag. Afterwards, about 3 to 6 ounces of ozone is gently administered over a 5 to 10-minute period.
Most rectal insufflation requires only three things: a small catheter, an ozone collection bag, and a lubricant.
When the procedure is over, the catheter is removed from the rectum and the patient is refrained from passing gas or having a bowel movement within 30 minutes post treatment.
Experts recommend that patients undergo this procedure once a day for three weeks1. For maintenance, the patient is advised a week interval before the next therapy.

With this type of therapy blood approximately 200cc of blood is drawn from the patient and infused with Ozone. This ozonated blood is they past through an ultraviolet light and back into
Hyperbaric Ozone/ 10-Pass Ozone Treatment
The process for the 10-Pass Ozone Treatment is quite different than that used for the MAH.
Instead of manually withdrawing blood it is pulled out under pressure into a seal glass bottle where it is ozonated under pressure and then re-infused back into the patient. This process is repeated up to 10 times. Compared to MAH the 10-pass is a much stronger therapy.
Studies On Crohn’s Disease
Table outlines the 13 studies meeting inclusion criteria that reported the use of HBOT in Crohn’s disease. Six studies were prospective and one contained a control group . In each of the 13 studies, the patients had severe Crohn’s disease that was refractory to standard medical treatments, including, in some cases, corticosteroids, sulfasalazine, metronidazole, 6-mercaptopurine, and an elemental diet. One study reported improvements with a stay of up to 3 weeks at the Dead Sea in 6 patients . Two studies contained patients from previous studies but reported new data on these patients . One study reported the effects of HBOT on flow-mediated vasodilation of the brachial artery in 2 patients with Crohn’s disease, but did not report the clinical outcomes of HBOT on gastrointestinal inflammation in these patients . The remaining 9 studies totaled 40 unique patients with Crohn’s disease who were treated with HBOT ranging from 2.0 to 2.8 ATA. Of these 40 patients, 31 had clinical improvements in Crohn’s disease with HBOT. One study reported a significant decrease in proinflammatory cytokines after HBOT in 7 patients with Crohn’s disease .

Ozone Therapy In Chronic And Ulcerative Colitis
In addition to its anti-inflammatory, circulatory and immune system regulatory effects, ozone is a complementary and/or stand-alone treatment model in Crohns disease by killing bacteria, viruses and fungi. During its absorption from the intestinal wall, ozone reacts with inflammatory products, eliminates the acidic and hypoxic environment and provides repair of the inner surface of the intestine. Ozone strengthens the immune system, as a result, the microbial balance is normalized and inflammation symptoms regress. The increase in blood oxygen normalizes bowel movements. Rectal insufflation helps to stop bleeding rapidly, especially in patients with severe bleeding in the active period in ulcerative colitis. When the disease stagnates, the Ozone treatment that we apply from the major vein as a maintenance helps to reduce the need for medication. In addition to ozone treatment, if high-dose vitamin C is supported intravenously, the damaged tissues caused by the disease heal better and the immune system is strengthened better. In particular, high-dose vitamin C is of great importance in removing heavy metals from the body that impair immunity on the basis of this disease.
Results Of Biochemical Analysis
In the acute distal colitis group, TNF- levels were significantly increased when compared to control group, while this acetic acid-induced rise in serum TNF- level was abolished with ozone theraphy. Similarly IL-1 levels were also significantly increased in the acute distal colitis group , however when rats were treated with ozone. As a result both cytokines were come closer to control levels. The mean level of MDA was increased in all colonic tissues after sepsis when compared with the control group , while ozone theraphy to the sepsis acute distal colitis group caused a marked decrease in MDA levels . Myeloperoxidase activity was found significantly higher in the distal colonic tissues of the acute distal colitis group when compared to control group . On the other hand, ozone theraphy decreased MPO levels of all tissues , which was found to be not different than that of the control group .
