Male BALB/c mice were purchased from the Experimental Animal Center, Second Military Medical University and were maintained under a 12 h light-dark cycle at a temperature of 24°C. After adapting to the environment, 32 mice were divided into four groups. All animal experiments were conducted according to the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals published by the National Institutes of Health, and the study protocol was approved by the Animal Care and Use Committee of the Shanghai University. The DSS-induced colitis mice model were established as previously described . Briefly, BALB/c mice were administered 2.5% DSS for 7 days, Weighing body weight and monitoring disease action index daily.
After acclimatization for 3 days, mice were randomly divided into four groups as follows: 1) the control group, fed with standard rodent food and water, without any other treatment 2) the model group provided free access to 2.5% DSS, and orally administered normal saline at 100 L/20 g daily 3) provided free access to 2.5% DSS and orally administered SASP at 400 mg/kg daily 4) provided free access to 2.5% DSS and orally administered ginger at 500 mg/kg daily.
