Tips For Preventing Mouth Ulcers

Some mouth ulcers do not have a cure, and they tend to recur throughout a persons life.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do to prevent mouth ulcers or reduce their recurrence.7 For example, consider improving your mouth hygiene as poor oral hygiene is a known cause of mouth infections.

Some types of prescription medications, such as antidepressants, can also cause mouth ulcers.8 If your prescribed medication is causing sores in your mouth, consult your doctor for other options.

Change your toothbrush or toothpaste if you notice that they are the triggers to your mouth ulcers.

For instance, if you are using a toothpaste containing sodium lauryl sulfate , you should change it to a better toothpaste. There is a denaturing effect of SLS on oral epithelium that is responsible for mouth ulcers.

Products that contain sodium fluoride and are approved by the American Dental Association are the best options.9

Your toothbrush could also be too harsh on your mouth lining. Try using a soft bristle toothbrush to see if the sores subside.

What Causes Behet’s Disease

Scientists are still not exactly sure what causes this disease. It may be an autoimmune disorder, meaning the bodys immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue with an inflammatory response. Both HLA-B5 and HLA-B51 are gene markers that are sometimes present in patients with Behçets disease. But there are some people who have this gene marker who dont have Behçets disease. Whats The Role Of Immunosuppressants In Stem Cell Transplants

Stem cell transplants can treat many conditions, including:

Some stem cell transplants use your own cells . People who have an autologous transplant dont need immunosuppressant medications.

Allogeneic stem cell transplants replace diseased cells in your body with healthy ones from a donor . After a transplant, donor cells begin to build a new immune system in your body .

Sometimes, this new immune system views your body as foreign. The immune system may attack healthy tissues and organs. This leads to graft-versus-host disease .

Immunosuppressants lower the chances of GVHD. You receive different intravenous or oral immunosuppressants for several weeks to months during and after a stem cell transplant. You may need to take immunosuppressants for years until the new immune system settles down.

    • Incisional biopsy: Your healthcare provider will remove small pieces of tissue to get cells to be examined for cancer.
    • Indirect laryngoscopy and pharyngoscopy: Your healthcare provider uses a small mirror on a long thin handle to look at your throat, the base of your tongue and part of your larynx .
    • Direct pharyngoscopy and laryngoscopy: They may use an endoscope to look at areas of your throat and mouth that cant be seen with mirrors. An endoscope is a thin, flexible tube with an attached light and viewing lens.
